"You Look Like Alumni"

We went to an ASU football game.
No, we did not take Kellyn's puppy, Cruzer with us. He just wanted to be in the picture.
On our way into the game, we bought water from a vendor outside the stadium and our conversation went something like this:
Water Boy: Are you alumni?
Kelly: Yes, do I look like an alumni? We don't look like students?
Water Boy: No, you look like alumni.
Me: Do I look like an alumni? (I know, alumnus is the correct term.)
Water Boy: You look like a teacher. (At least he didn't say professor.)
Do we really look like alumni?
Maybe because we didn't cut our shirts and tie them down the side.
Oh well, we still had a good time watching some football in the desert. And I don't mind looking like alumni with this group of friends. We did go to Axis Radius after the game so that's gotta count for something, right? :)

What Am I Eating These Days?

Yesterday I started on a new diet called The Specific Carbohydrate Diet. It is based on the book, Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall. In order for the diet to be successful, it must be "fanatically adhered" to. Yesterday began my fanatical adherence.

I wanted to post a couple of recipes on here so I know where to find them for future reference.

The first is for almond saltine crackers. These are the only ingredients.
Spread it on a baking mat and score with a pizza cutter.
Bake for 15 minutes and this is what you end up with.
I had some today with some cheese and they are decent. Not as much crunch as a wheat thin, but I think I need to make them a little more thin next time.

Last night for dinner I just had a piece of flounder with mango, tomato and oregano topping and brussels sprouts (I just learned they were brussels sprouts as opposed to brussel). I have been making brussels sprouts recently just in olive oil on the stove, and they don't have time to soften up. So, I tried steaming them first and then cooking them on the stove (because I like to add a little honey topping to them), but I think I steamed them too long because they were a little soggy last night. I bought more today at Whole Foods so I will try to perfect it next time.
This afternoon I made these cinnamon cookies - they are pretty good. A little too soft so next time I will bake them a bit longer. I used butter for this recipe, but next time I am going to use coconut oil instead of butter.
And right now I have bread baking so I can have a sandwich for lunch tomorrow. I never thought I would be so 'domestic'.

King Kong - Central Park Movie

Last Friday night we watched King Kong in Central Park. It was such a beautiful NYC night...sitting on blankets...with friends...watching a movie.

Jessica Joy and I
The view from our spot
Our group...Zach, Steve, Abby, Grace, Jon, Angela, Jessica Joy and me.
King Kong was not in 3-D...but they did have a short 3-D preview. Of course we had to take a picture with our glasses. They also gave out free popcorn...with fried Oreo's. No, I did not have any.
King Kong...this movie was produced in 1933. Before it started, I asked if it was from the 70s. Just a little off.
We had a great time...and this was a good movie for the park.

Summer Streets 2010

The City of New York held the Summer Street event again this year, so Laura and I decided to do it again. We got started at about 8am, and we
colored on the street (it is difficult to use chalk on asphalt)...
took pictures in front of the MetLife Building (before we walked through the Park Ave. tunnel)...
got Micah in some pictures....
warned everyone to be careful of the steam (or something to that effect)...
did a little jumping...
in front of Grand Central Station...
looked at the dumpster pools (but didn't swim)...
took a fitness class put on by Crunch...
and had a picnic with samples from Whole Foods.
This year we did not go all the way to the Brooklyn Bridge - we stopped at Union Square and went to the Lower East Side for a while. You can also see some video that Eric put up on their blog here.
