Vancouver for 40th - Days 1 & 2

This year was a milestone birthday for me (40!?!?) and Dave was so nice to plan a surprise trip for me. He did such a good job on the honeymoon so I trusted him with this...and I would easily trust him again for any surprise trip he wanted to plan and organize :)

We were gone from November 9-13, and he told me where we were going on November 7th. I had never been to Vancouver before so was excited to see somewhere new.

On the plane - we took American Airlines and it was a direct flight.
We arrived around 8pm on Saturday night, and after we landed and picked up the rental car, Dave had dinner reservations at Tuc. I ordered the Chicken Kabob as my main, and I think it was my favorite meal of the trip.
On Sunday morning, we got up and went outside to walk around and get our bearings (it was dark when we arrived the night before). We walked out of our Airbnb and it was "fall" everywhere.
Dave's first stop of the morning was at Tim Horton's for a Boston-creme donut and coffee.
The fall colors were gorgeous - that is something to the Phoenix area does lack.
We then found Musette where I got a latte with oat milk.
They had this sign on the door - I think that is a great policy and more coffee shops should do this - actually make people talk to each other!

We went back to the Airbnb and got ready for the day, and then went to Forage where Dave had brunch reservations. It was rated the best brunch spot in Vancouver - and we both said if we lived there it would be on our brunch rotation.

After brunch we drove the Sea-to-Sky highway and spent the afternoon at Whistler. This is the Lion's Gate Bridge leaving Vancouver.
Stopped at a viewpoint turnoff.
Our rental car for the trip - Dave had rented a smaller car, but they didn't have it so we got this upgrade for free.
We tried to go to the Olympic Park but we were there during the off-season of tours so it was closed.
Whistler Village
The gondola's were not running - they were preparing for the winter season.
Whistler is beautiful - this is on our bucket list to go back when the slopes are open.

We stopped in the village at COWS for ice cream, and it was voted the best ice cream in the world by Tauck World Discovery (a company that offers tours in 63 countries). I had the Prince Edward Island blueberry, and it was excellent - even had fresh blueberries from the island.
The Olympic Rings

The view on our drive back to Vancouver.
Our dinner reservations Sunday night were at West - which was packed but we found out it was closing at the end of the year because the owners could not come to terms on rent with the landlord. So, we are glad we were able to go there before it closed.
This was the amuse-bouche between our salad and main course. I ordered salmon for my main, which wasn't my favorite, but we did have a burrata salad to start and it was some of the best burrata I have ever eaten.
Monday and Tuesday still to come...

39!

My birthday this year started with a 5am BODI Sweat workout with Kellyn. She had never been to a 5am class before so she surprised me by showing up that early to the gym. It felt great starting the next year of my life with a good workout and even more fun to workout with Kellyn!
I came home and got ready for work and Dave made me eggs and fruit for breakfast. He also went and got the mail and in it was my first ever daughter-in-law card.
I got to drive a fun car to work...
...with a stop at Starbucks first for a free birthday drink.
My parents took me to lunch at Liberty Market in Gilbert and Kellyn and the boys came too. Uriah made me a birthday card and told me this is a picture of a "windstorm."
Kellyn had Owen dressed in the "Awesome Like my Auntie" onesie. Uriah wore this same outfit for my 36th birthday.
(Throwback pic to 3 years prior.)
Family pic in downtown Gilbert.
After lunch I went back to work and then came home to Dave cooking fajitas for dinner. That is my favorite meal that he cooks, and I especially like it now that there are the Siete grain free tortilla chips and coconut flour tortillas. After dinner we went to That's Amore for dessert - the owners are Italian and they make the best gelato!
On the Saturday after my birthday Dave planned a dinner for a few friends at Pomelo.

And finally, the Tuesday after my birthday we went to True Food for a free birthday dessert. I am so glad my birthday falls when they have the squash pie in season...my favorite (and they make it GF)!
All in all a great birthday. I don't know how it is already my last year of my thirties, but am thankful for another year of life. #thebestisyettocome

Dear Baby Owen,

A week ago, on January 26th, 2018, you turned ONE year old. You surprised us all a year ago by coming early - you weren't supposed to be born until February. I got a text from your Grandma Janis telling me you were coming - it didn't seem long at all and then I received this first picture of you.
Owen Victor Hiatt
7lbs; 19.5 inches
I was actually in NYC when you were born and flew back to AZ on January 29th. I came straight from the airport to see you. This picture is of you crying but that is actually the exact opposite of your personality - I just liked Uriah and my faces in this picture.
You are the most laid back, happy and easy going baby.
Since I was in NYC when you were born, I got you a copy of The New York Times from your birthdate and an I <3 ny="" onesie.="" p="">
I am thankful that I live near you and have been able to see you often during your first year...
...and take a trip to Disneyland and the beach with you too.
I hope your personality never changes - you have so much joy and that is contagious when we are around you.

I'm excited to see how you grow and what your second year holds for you.

I love you baby Owen and I couldn't be more proud to be your aunt.
