Tom's Thumb Hike

Almost two weeks ago, on Saturday January 13th, Dave and I hiked Tom's Thumb. In all my years of living and hiking in Phoenix I had never hiked Tom's Thumb.
It is about 4 miles round trip...we didn't time it exactly, but we started around 10:15am and were finished about noonish.
At the first lookout point. This is facing northwest.
This isn't Tom's Thumb, but this looked like a thumb's up to us.
The first mile or so is somewhat steep - nothing jagged or rocky but a gradual "up." Once you get past that first mile it is still generally increasing, but is pretty flat.
Great January day for hiking!

Made it to the Thumb!

It was a great hike and a perfect day for being outside. If the trailhead wasn't such a drive I would do this one more often but it was definitely fun to try something new.

Uriah's First Camelback Hike

Last Sunday Uriah hiked up (part of) Camelback for the first time. I don't know how it came up, but over the summer he said he wanted to hike the mountain with me. I never heard him say this, but my mom said that he said it multiple times. We waited until the weather cooled down and after a couple of failed attempts finally made it the first Sunday of January.

At the start of the trail...first time hiking and on a double black diamond :)

Sibling hike with Uriah. #stillfitafteralltheseyears
As he was hiking he kept saying "I can see everything!"
This was as far as we went...but for a 3 and a half year old it was far enough.
He got a picture with all of us.

Water break...
...with Uncle Kyle.
Then they built a rock mountain.
Overall the hike was a success. Kellyn said Uriah talked about it Sunday night and on Monday he saw a mountain and said look at that mountain we hiked yesterday. As he gets older we will just keep going farther distances until he makes it to the top!
